Promotion of the Kafa Biosphere Reserve on the biggest travel trade show in the world

March 2016 - From 9 to 13 March 2016, the world’s leading travel trade show, called ITB, takes place in Berlin, Germany. This year, NABU is participating to promote the tourism offers of the Kafa Biosphere Reserve. Ecotourism is an important tool to locally conserve nature while generating income for local people and support sustainable regional development.

Since 2006, NABU, a Germany-based environmental NGO, has been actively involved in the protection and restoration of natural ecosystems as well as regional development in Kafa. Especially ecotourism is a great tool to foster sustainable development as it combines income generation for the local population with an improved understanding and acceptance for nature conservation. Through this, ecotourism contributes to a long-term improvement of livelihoods.

On the ITB, NABU is therefore promoting its most important ecotourism-projects in Ethiopia, with a focus on the Kafa Biosphere Reserve as the origin of Arabica coffee and a region with an astounding cultural and biological wealth and diversity. Together with its longstanding partner tour operator ‘African Dreams’, NABU connects with travel experts and interested individuals from all over the world and spreads the word about the Kafa Biosphere Reserve – one of Ethiopia’s hidden treasures. During the ITB, NABU and African Dreams can be found in the Africa hall 21a, stand No. 101a.
